Freeware
Freeware - The author retains the copyright to the program, but does not charge for it. Anyone may freely use it as long as they like.

Giftware
Giftware, Cardware, Mailware etc. - Variants on shareware. If you like the program, you are required to send a gift that you feel serves as payment for the program. Cardware, you send a postcard from your home town, mailware you send the author some mail or e-mail.

Public Domain
Author surrenders all rights to the program. Users are free to use, distribute, even modify program as they see fit.

Shareware
Shareware - Program is provided on a "try before you buy" basis. If after using the program, you decide you like it, you are required to pay the Shareware fee.
