V.42bis Allows up to 4:1 data compression V.42bis modems also usually include V.42 error correction. MNP-5 Allows up to 2:1 data compression. Relies on MNP-2 through MNP-4 for error correction. The fastest communications route is always in what is known as direct mode. Every stage of compression, error correction and buffering causes a time delay. |
