Sometimes you will find sites that have files available for downloading.
These files usually contain software that you may want to run on your computer. To download software, click the link provided. Depending on the browser you are using, you will asked what you want to do with the file. If you "save to disk", the file will be stored in the directory you specify on your computer, giving you the chance to run the software or open the file later. Some browsers may also give you the option to "open", "run" or 'execute' the file. This option will run or open the file that you have clicked on straight away, without saving it to your computer's hard disk first. Some software available on the web is free ('freeware'), but many programs you can download are 'shareware'. The author of 'shareware' software allows you to try it out for free, but if you want to keep the program and use it regularly you have to pay the shareware fee. You should also be aware that some files available on the web are very big and can take a long time to download. A good web site will always warn you about this first. Finally, read the authors documentation before installing or executing any file(s).
