The .ADF (Amiga Disk File) format FAQ [indepth]
Disks formatted with the directory-caching option cannot be read by amigas with earlier versions of the system software; IE: (Release 2 or earlier).

Do not attempt to use standard disk repair utilities on such disks, as such tools may not support these features.
